About Me

In case you ever wonder about the guy behind this all, here’s a bit about me:

  • I’m a 34 year old guy living a bit north of Seattle, in Washington State.
  • I work in the insurance industry. Claims. Latenight. It’s during this massive amount of dead time that I write stuff for this.
  • I’m married (almost 5 years now) to a woman that I met, believe it or not, on teh internets. Her name is Iratxe; while she was living in the US when we met, she was born and raised in Spain – the Basque portion, specifically.
  • Her name is a menace to pronounce. Lots of people, myself included, just call her “Ness”.
  • That Basque / Spanish influence has trickled through to a lot of my character names. More fun than searching for something that hasn’t been taken.
  • My wife plays as well, though with fewer alts. She played a Troll Elemental Shaman in Burning Crusade, but has more or less moved over to playing a Blood Elf Mage since the Expansion.
  • We have an 11-month old daughter, Avery. She should be a friggin’ model.
  • Seriously, she should be a model. Look at those eyes…
  • We have two Scottish Terriers as well -a traditional black-coat female, Annie, as well as a wheaten-coat male, Barclay. They’re gremlins.
  • In my free time, I play ice hockey – I  have played for about half my life at this point. My favorite hockey team is the St Louis Blues. In baseball, I follow the Seattle Mariners; Football, the Seattle Seahawks; college sports, the Washington State Cougars, and in Soccer (admittedly, more casual) Athletic Bilbao – the wife’s hometown team.
  • I got into WoW in December, 2006. I purposely put off playing for a long time while I finished up my second go-round at college, since I knew darn good and well that I’d spend a lot of time playing. I was right.
  • I’ve played a lot of RPG games in my past, but this is my first “MMORPG”. I started my career in the early 80’s with “Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord”. Near as I can remember, and more or less chronologically, some of the others that have occupied my time over the years:  “Dungeons of Daggorath”, “Bard’s Tale”, “Ultima”, “Might & Magic”, “AD & D”, “Daggerfall”, “Diablo” and “Dungeon Siege”. Many of these titles had a whole lot of sequels that I played as well, and that’s to say nothing of NES / Playstation titles.
  • I’ve always been a completionist about RPG games. I’ve always tended to play cautiously and deliberately, doing the kind of things that allow me to stack the deck in my favor beforehand. I’ve never been adverse to killing lowbie monsters for hours on end just to make sure that I was maxxed out entering the next phase of content on whichever game it was that I was playing.
  • I hate clowns. Seriously, they scare the bejeezus out of me.
  • Favorite movies EVAR: “The Big Lebowski”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, “Braveheart”, “Die Hard”, “Bull Durham”, “Aliens”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Better Off Dead”, “Army of Darkness”.
  • I mostly listen to the local classic rock station. You kids with your skateboards and rap music, GTFO my lawn.
  • I consider myself to be a very good PVE / Leveling player, an above average Raider and one of the crappiest PvP players that you’ll ever meet. I guess that’s from a lifetime of playing vs the computer instead of other people.
  • I’m not half bad at making money in WoW. I’m one of the only people that I know who has always had money to get mounts, training, etc for the appropriate milestone levels the moment I hit them. I never had to borrow money for it; in fact, I was frequently the lender. True story, for four of my friends who play(ed), I gifted each of them with a nice, epic weapon as a congratulations for hitting level40 when we were all coming up.
  • While I don’t claim to be a master at playing any one particular class, I’d like to think that I’m pretty well-rounded and informed about discussing all of them – except Priests. I know so very little about them, it’s ridiculous. I’m kind of marginal about Death Knights too, but whatever.

Finally, the reason that all of you lurkers came here in the first place.

I should probably get my head examined for this, but I’m going to leave comments enabled here. I am, however, reserving the right to excercise as much editing of comment content as I damn well please, at least on this page. The other ones, I’ll stay pretty loosey-goosey with the banhammer.
